Fuerteventura golf course is situated 8 kms south of the islands airport, and just 200 metres from the Atlantic Ocean. Set mostly over a flat terrain only holes 17 & 18 have any noticeable incline.
From holes 1 & 10, alongside the clubhouse, the layout wind towards the ocean and then returns to finish at the clubhouse, alongside the practice range. During your round you pass three large lakes connected by a small stream, obviously these come into play on various occasions. Other obstacles include nearly seventy bunkers and a dry riverbed. May we suggest that you take a few spare golf balls!
All of the playing surface is seeded and irrigated, although there are various garden areas within the course these should not come into play. The fairways, tees and rough are all seeded with a mixture of two Bermuda grasses whereas the aprons and greens are of agrostis.
The course has been designed by Juan Catarineu who understood the importance and impact of the wind. He has designed a course that takes this factor into account. Large greens with an average size of over 614 square metres and driving areas, in many holes, over 50 metres wide. Many of the holes have to be played over or alongside water. Fuerteventura is a classic course of par 70 with 12 par fours, 2 par fives and 4 par threes with a maximum length of 6079 metres.
