Amarilla Golf on the southern coast of Tenerife is an extensive Links course with spectacular views that you will want to take your camera for. The character of the 18 hole course is very much marked by the incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean, no doubt inspiration for the golf architect Donald Steel.
Due to its privileged location the area enjoys a warm and pleasant climate throughout the year where prevailing winds are a constant feature. Amarilla was inaugurated in 1989, and one year later hosted the second edition of the Tenerife Open, which was part of the European P.G.A Tour.
As you might expect, on an such an island of scenic contrasts, the eighteen holes range over a variety of terrains. From the Club house with its fine views, the first four holes follow the rocky shoreline, the 3rd hole boasts great dogleg, attractively sited alongside a Barranca and cactus-covered hills. Probably the most memorable hole is the par three 5th where you must clear the ocean (although not all of it) to reach the green - just to warn you, we have lost many, many balls here!
The 14th and 15th, heading inland, lead to the last three holes, along the green avenues between rows of houses to complete the round. Amarilla is truely is a golf course of international standard which is well maintained and much improved in recent years.
