Vale Do Lobo Ocean

The Ocean Course at Vale do Lobo is composed of two of the original 9-hole golf courses designed by Sir Henry Cotton, which were opened initially in 1968 and 1972. The courses merged in 1995, after his death.

 

The course features undulating fairways which run alongside a nature reserve, then lead gently down to the shores of the Atlantic. Its emblematic holes are two challenging and spectacular Par 4s, the 11th and the 14^th, which treat golfers to some of the most spectacular views in the Algarve, and the Par 3 15th, which runs alongside the beach.

 

Work began in 2001 to improve the Ocean Course, this was finally finished at the beginning of 2004. The changes resulted in significant enhancements to the front nine with 6 new quality holes introduced, these are already receiving very good comments. The opening par 4 is a tough hole with a dog-leg left. The par 5 6^th is the next challenge with bunkers to the left of the green and a lake along the whole length of the green to the right leaving a very narrow landing area. Water comes into play again on the 9^th. A stream runs along the left of the fairway and then across it and into the lake providing an interesting hazard. The final hole is a par 5 with a small, tiered and rather tricky green. Reach par here and you can be well satisfied.
