Situated in one of the Algarve's best known regions between Albufeira and Armacao de Pera, Salgados is an extremely attractive and scenic course. Salgados differs to other courses on the Algarve due the test of golfing skills presented by the variety of lakes and the close proximity of the sea.
Originally designed by Portuguese architect Pedro de Vasconcelos, with more recent contributions from other local architects. However, the final and current layout has been heavily influenced by Robert Muir Graves.
Not the longest of courses, Salgados still poses a fair challenge with water obstacles a plenty, you will need to exercise your skills in order to reach greens. Accurate driving is the key to a good score on this technical yet beautiful course.
The eighteen holes are well balanced, as each half of the course has two Par 5 holes of around 500 metres and two Par 3 holes of more than 170 metres. Par for the course is 72.
The par 5 6th has a wide fairway with a lake running along the whole right hand side of it with the green also sitting to the right and protected by water. Don't be tempted to play too far to the left or you will be in trouble. The par 4 7th is thought by some to be the best hole on the Algarve and you will find yourself playing into the wind.
On the back nine the par 3 12th takes you over water and onto a two-tiered green. The par 5 15th is a long hole where you tee off over a tidal creek and the sandy hummocks to the left create quite a hazard.
